Hailing from Slovakia, and formed in 2008, this five piece have shared stages with the likes of Theocracy and Dark Moor. Signed on the Swedish Ulterium label, Within Silence finally come to the release of their debut album of Scandinavian-inspired power metal with a few progressive influences. Pulsating drum rhythms underpin a broad wash of throaty guitars and keyboards, whilst Martin Klein makes an excellent job of some intense vocals. Production is excellent throughout and the musicianship is first rate. Having said this, I was often found waiting for the sound to ratchet up to the next level. After a standard musical intro, "Silent Desire" is a well-conceived and well played opener. Although it is quite catchy, this track, like many others on the recording, is nothing that has not been heard before. "Emptiness Of Night" is another example of a track that seems to be held back. It has a promising keyboard drive that is just calling out for a blistering guitar solo which never materialises. Although the tracks can sometimes seem a little half paced, there is also much of promise on offer. The double kick drums on "Love Is Blind" allow some of the group's more progressive skills to shine through, and the seven minute "Road To The Paradise" is full of some pleasing phrases. With some thoughtful lyrics throughout, 'Gallery Of Life' brings to mind elements of Sacred Warrior and Dragonforce in a project that will not disappoint fans of melodic metal with a European feel. This is a solid debut which highlights a band that will be worth looking out for in the future.
