Deep in the heart of East Anglia, something stirs; if your scene is U2/REM/ZZ Top/Beatles/Police-style stuff then check out this four-piece guitar-driven combo. Although they've only been together for a couple of years, the band has built up quite a following, judging from the itinerary of their "Meeting The People '95" tour, which has included pubs, clubs, prisons, churches, village halls and a gig at Carrow Road, home of Norwich City FC. So about this tape - it's a cut above the average, being recorded in a proper recording studio, so no front room four-track technology here. This, coupled with being duplicated onto chrome tape, means a crisp and clear sound, the instruments don't drown out the vocals and the lead guitarist (take a bow Ian Finch) is outstanding. Listen hard and you'll hear all their professed influences. On the down side, the lead vocals are a tad off pitch (but not very often) and one or two of the eight songs could be stronger lyrically. But their material is all self-penned, so things can only get (even) better. Shame that the aforementioned Mr Finch has had to leave the band to go to university; I hope his replacement can rise to the occasion, 'cos these guys must go down a storm live. A promising debut.
