This is the seventh album from Kingsway's Worship Without Words instrumental series. It's a re-release of a 1993 recording Christopher Norton made of a small string orchestra playing hymns and more modern worship songs. Not too modern though, in fact nothing written after 1985. They are all songs that have been tremendously popular in churches and to hear them again is like meeting up with old friends. However, it does tend to show up the weakness of some of our more recent chorus-type songs by exposing them without their lyrics next to classic hymn tunes and a pretty arrangement doesn't make up for this. A gorgeous lush string sound, very well balanced and sensitively played with a good dynamic range from really chunky to hypnotically sweet. Mostly the arrangements are sedate, although "Father God I Wonder" does approach fun. A perfect relaxing background after a stressful day, I suggest.
