Thanks Mal - I always enjoy your thought-provoking articles. I love Attenborough's programmes too, but people should be more wary about these ageing atheists. I remember watching Peter Atkins being interviewed on 'The Trouble with Atheism' documentary in 2006 and I can't quite explain it, but there was something very sad and scary about his face and manner. It reminded me of Pink Floyd's lyric "Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way". Of course, some people who are dying are not actually aware that they are. Andrew, you are SO right in what you say above, but intellectual pride can be such a killer. Working as an academic scientist, I know what it can do...
