Comment: I think the difference between what is a cultural difference and what is simply rude and offensive behaviour has gone a bit askew here. There is a common misconception today that if something is culturally acceptable, as is being claimed by supporters of Brand and Ross's actions, that it should be broadcastable. The simple truth is that what is culturally acceptable is not necessarily morally acceptable and the BBC has the responsibility to keep moral values in its sight whenever it considers what is culturally acceptable to broadcast. As I heard one contributer to the discussion on R4 say today 'The BBC have a moderator on their webpages who would remove any comment I posted that expressed similar views to those of Brand and Ross. Why is it then acceptable for presenters on the BBC and not for the listeners?' The truth is that it is not acceptable for either presenter or listener to behave indecently or abusively to another person. This is part of the natural philosophical law as well as our Christian faith. It is just good manners.
