Well done Ben! As pastor of a small church I have been hurt by people suddenly leaving because the 'worship experience' wasn't to their taste, and I have been hugely encouraged by people who have come along, found a welcome from God's people and - somewhat to their surprise - found God. God was there - they found him because they bothered to turn up and because God's people were open to him and to them. Worship is not an experience; and if you don't feel like it, worship anyway - it is not an experience; and if you can't pray - worship. I have no option but sometimes there have been times when I have preached out of the depths, feeling low and lost. And those have been some of the best times, when the congregation and myself have felt the presence of God - because he was there and we turned up. God honours the worship of a broken heart. Worship is not an experience, and its purpose is not to lift us up - worship is laying down your life, and its purpose is to lift up God's name.
