I am Catholic. I am a Christian. Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior. I'm so surprised how many people will look me in the face and tell me that I don't believe this! I have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. AND I am a typical, practicing Catholic! It is difficult for most Protestants and non-Catholics to understand why our practices differ from other, newer Christian denominations, but that is because most Protestants embrace a "Bible-alone" ideology and have no concept of Christianity before the reformation. The reason why Catholics "do" different things than Protestants is because we accept ALL of the teachings of the Apostles of Jesus, not just those teachings contained in the inspired documents that were chosen in the 400s to be included in the Bible. We believe ALL of the teachings of the Apostles MUST be valued otherwise we do not truly understand Christ! If anyone is doubting what I say, type "early church fathers" into Google and read their writings from all the way back to 60 AD! The Church of the early Christians looks NOTHING like modern Protestantism. And do you know what was present in early Christianity? Devotion and prayer to Mary, the Saints and Martyrs, praying for the souls of the dead (actually this was a Jewish traditions that predates Christ), the supremacy of the bishop of Rome, the bread and wine at the Eucharist actually WORSHIPED by early Christians because THEY (those who were taught by the apostles) believed it to be the true Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. EDUCATE YOURSELF! Do you know that thousands of American Protestant pastors are becoming Catholic?! Why? Because they are "studying" their way into the Truths of Catholicism. Google "The Coming Home Network" and read the hundreds of conversion stories in their library. You'll be stunned...
