Joy, I was very moved by your article (and also other of your writings). I believe my own situation and that of someone so very dear to me is a reflection of the way in which, as you say "Hope...when it is treasured, brings life to us and everyone around us; but when it is dashed by the harsher realities around us it can cause us to shrink back into self-protective prisons." The self protection you talk about, I feel, has been our experience. Indeed it is so destructive. It kills. I pray every day for wisdom, courage, and deliverance. The pain of losing hope - and it appears that is what has happened in my beloved one - has almost destroyed our relationship. I say almost, as I still have hope in Christ for healing. He has never let me down, or disappointed me, yet i have disappointed him, and disappointed my loved one badly, being unaware of what was really happening at the time.
