There are serious concerns over plans to subject church youth work in England to ‘British Values’ inspections. Under the proposals, Ofsted will be given the power to carry out extremism checks on out-of-school settings. Concerns are heightened because of Ofsted’s apparent dislike of schools with Christian ethos. The Government’s consultation on the plans stated that any “extremist” or “undesirable” teaching which is incompatible with ‘British Values’ will be prohibited. Any place which provides instruction to under 19-year-olds for more than 6 hours in any week would be covered. | |
