Members of the Scottish Parliament have thrown out a petition to legalise incest between adults. MSPs rejected the petition, which asked the Scottish government to amend the law on incest, so that it would no longer apply to consenting adults over the age of 21.

Education Secretary Nicky Morgan has announced that the government plans to limit complaints over faith schools' admission policies. The new plans are intended to prevent complaints from outside the local community, which can burden school admission systems. They will also prevent secular campaign groups from bringing "vexatious complaints" against faith schools. Only local parents or the local authority will be allowed to lodge a complaint against a school.

Parents have expressed concern after children in Brighton and Hove were asked how they 'define their gender' as part of a government survey. The survey was developed by the Office of the Children's Commissioner for England for pupils aged 13-18. 'Genders' listed included "gender non conforming" and "tri-gender".

A new poll suggesting that more Anglicans in the UK support same-sex 'marriage' than oppose it has been debunked. The YouGov poll, commissioned by a self-proclaimed 'Anglican' LGBT activist, purported to show that 45% of Anglicans believe that same-sex 'marriage' is right, while 37% believe it is wrong. But, upon closer inspection, the poll clearly reveals that those surveyed were not committed Anglicans, and their views on adultery and pornography were not biblical.

One of Scotland’s first 'named persons' has been struck off the teaching register for sharing fantasies about sexually abusing children. Teacher Dayna Dickson-Boath was appointed 14 months ago as a 'state guardian' for 200 pupils, as part of the Scottish government's widely criticised 'named person' scheme. Ms Dickson-Boath was convicted of the offence last August and struck off last week. She may be banned from working with children for life.

'Three-parent babies' technology should not be used to create baby girls, a group of American academics has said. The US National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine said the technique, which is permitted in the UK, should initially only be used on male embryos, as girls can pass on faulty mitochondrial DNA to future generations.

Cancer death rates in the UK have fallen by about 10% in the past 10 years, the latest figures show. In 2013, 284 out of every 100,000 people died from cancer. In 2003, it was 312. Improvements in diagnosis and treatment are thought to be the reason.

New analysis of findings from Britain’s national happiness index has found that having a faith can make you happier. The figures indicated that people who say they have no religious affiliation report lower levels of happiness, life satisfaction and self-worth than those who do.

Despite a decrease in numbers of those who class themselves as Christian, a survey commissioned by the National Churches Trust has found that more than half of adults have visited a church in the past year. It also found that 84% of those questioned think churches, chapels and meeting houses are important to the country’s history and heritage. A similar number said churches play an important role in society by providing a space for community activities.

President Barack Obama has told the US National Prayer Breakfast in Washington DC that ‘faith is the great cure for fear,’ as he spoke about the positive influence Christianity can have on communities. Obama also praised faith groups for their work on a variety of issues, from combating trafficking to welcoming and supporting refugees.
