Songwriter/producer Keith Lancaster has gradually moved AVB into a funkier, more soulful direction with each album, and here, when the vocal pyrotechnics are really firing, the acappella quintet come close to Take 6 territory. Another element now omnipresent on AVB tracks is a drum computer. This odd mix - acappella harmonies and electronic percussion - particularly when directed to material which has many of the intricate musical flourishes of '60s and '70s soul music gives the whole album a certain skeletal, unfinished feel to them. Also, the lyrics, though hearteningly Christocentric, are a bit too stereotyped for my taste. Is there a market for this? Well, judging from the fact that this is AVB's fourth album (one with the other Lancaster-produced group Acappella and three all on their ownsome), I presume there is.
