All Souls have been running Prom Praise for over 40 years. If you've never been or never heard any of the annual album releases, it's a spectacular event, inspired by the BBC Proms, and features All Souls, Langham Place's renowned symphony orchestra of 100 players led by Noel Tredinnick, a choir of 500 and a selection of top contemporary artists and worship leaders. Usefully, the package includes a DVD and a CD, so you can watch it to get the full atmosphere, but still re-live it in your car. There are congregational hymns like the grand "O For A Thousand Tongues", join-in worship with big names Reuben Morgan and Matt Redman, alongside popular classics like Puccini's "O My Beloved Father" beautifully sung by Michelle Todd. Virtuoso keyboardist Richard Lennox features in Addinsell's "Warsaw Concerto" (piano) and Saint-Saƫn's "Symphony No. 3" (organ). When Prom Praise started out it was pretty groundbreaking to marry classical music with contemporary worship the way they do. But it works well, perhaps apart from the "Pomp And Circumstance March" where the new hymn words instead of "Land Of Hope And Glory" just sound affected.
