An excellent singer/songwriter with a nice line in stylistic eclecticism you’d expect from a man who was born in East Africa, educated at an English boarding school and currently liveing in Zurich, Switzerland. It was in Zurich where this album was recorded. There’s a fluid African vibe on “This Ring” and a couple of other tracks which create the same Township tinge of Paul Simon’s ‘Gracelands’ while throughout excellent programming draw the attention to strong melodies. On a track like “Like U A Little” there is even a satisfyingly funky vibe. Lyrically, David is no sloganeering evangelist, preferring his Christian world view to come through in subtle fashion. His website describes ‘RnD’ as “sophisticated pop, light-hearted songs about love, promises interspersed with sudden, arresting, heartfelt examinations of trauma, identity and meaning” which sums it up quite well. All in all, a lucid songwriting and singing talent delivering an expertly produced album.
