This is a selection of encouraging songs from the epic farewell concert of one of the most impressive of recent US gospel choirs. The concert as a whole has previously been released on DVD and on two double CDs. And again in this album the opener is the amazing single "The Blessings Of Abraham". I suspect it was the popularity of this track which at least partly led to the recent postponement of their departure. As is the culture of black gospel music there are plenty of voice-overs that may appear hyped to the uninitiated. Perhaps there are more on this album than usual because of its aim to feature songs of encouragement. "Giants" is a case in point containing an extended exhortation to believe that God is overcoming your difficult situations. For me what was most encouraging was the song "These Nails", not so much in the exhortations as in its interesting image of what it means to be crucified with Christ. This is another selection of songs that show these masters of urban/R&B/praise and worship fusion at the height of their ability.
