As we know, in the States Atlanta's Family Force 5 are currently one of the biggest things in US CCM. But what of their music? In truth, I can best describe it as being schizophrenic. Although the band themselves describe their style as crunk, to this humble reviewer it appears that Force Family 5 have not settled themselves into what genre they want to play in. The opening title track has a really '80s dance track feel to it, whilst "Get You Back Off The Wall" has a more urban hip-hop feel. Songs like "How In The World" really show off the group's boy band roots (which is hardly surprising considering they were originally just that, a boy band made up of three brothers), and final track "Radiator" feels as if it has come straight off a Marylyn Mason album (a guilty pleasure as it was definitely my favourite). Then you have a smattering of pop rock with "The First Time", a real foot tapper with a sing along chorus. Please don't think I am being negative by saying these things, as every track stands out in its own right and each has a strong lyric and melody attached to it. It is just that I am not sure what mood I would have to be in to play the album. Chilled with the gentle urban hip-hop or fired up with the rock tracks.
