First some history. Gideon's Army first arose out of the Bay Area's CCM scene playing many prisons, juvenile halls and Christian coffee houses. After a 1982 R&B-influenced 'Rock And Roll For Your Soul' album they delivered 'Warriors Of Love' in 1985 and were clearly influenced by bands like Petra, Daniel Band and Idle Cure. Thanks to the diligent work of America's re-issue specialist Retroactive Records, this album this album finally makes it to CD. 'Warriors Of Love' is at its best when heaviest and the high energy "Moment By Moment" and "Runaway" both carry considerable hard rock impact while the more pop-based hooks of "I Know I Could See You" and "It's Your Love" (with singers Mark Greves and Jerry Anderson switching vocals very much like the old Daniel Band) also leave their mark. Another standout is the gritty blues rocker "Backsliding Brother". Clearly an album of its time, it's good that it's now available for fans of the hard rock genre not willing to pay big collector prices for the rare vinyl.
