The debut single from English songwriter Ian Ventress sets out to celebrate motherhood in upbeat fashion and is very much a team effort in that it features the soulful vocals of Lu Ndaka and rapper Consept together with the production skills of Paul Worthington from Gateshead's Broadwater Studios. The song starts in promising fashion with a pleasing gospel choir effect before offering up an African feel that allows the track to be undeniably catchy and uplifting. Nonetheless, Ventress' well-meaning gratitude towards the mothers of the world comes across as lyrically simplistic and clunky - "your first day of school you were took by your mama" being a case in point - whilst the repetitive three chord structure and melody makes the song feel somewhat underdeveloped. Admittedly, it's difficult to judge a writer's potential on just one song and, with a full album in the pipeline, Ventress may have more to offer than this fledgling initial offering.
