Memories of Play School sprang to mind within a few minutes of the start of this CO, a collection of songs aimed at the 0-5 age group, The quasi-classical arrangements here, vaguely reminiscent of the old BBC children's series, cannot be faulted -they feature a wide selection of "real" instruments - no cheesy synths here, which makes a change from the average children's CD. Whilst most of the lyrics have been written with the age group in mind, in this light the addition of four hymns, whilst admirable in intent, is a little puzzling. This writer personally enjoys George Herbert's poetry, but will the average three-year-old grasp the meaning of phrases such as "Wherefore with my utmost art"? This aside, I can picture many of the songs on this CD going down very well in my own church's children's group, and indeed I think I already know who will receive my review copy...
