Another good value CD release from Malaco (how does 68 minutes 38 seconds sound?), from one of the more recently established choirs in the USA. The Miami Mass was founded only in 1995, but since that time it's built up a reputation for enthusiasm and musical excellence under the leadership of Marc Cooper. One oddity is a two part arrangement of "Kum Ba Ya", part one is a 120bpm jazz funk dance groove, part two is gospel reggae, with what sounds like a swear word in Marc's spoken intro into a snatch of "Shut De Do". Another thing: I shall scream if I hear another soul sista yell "can I get a witness?" Nevertheless, aficionados of choral black gospel should not be disappointed.
