Nothing had prepared us for this! Their first two albums had some hot moments but were flawed but now the Preachers In Disguise let off the more inventive, hardcore rap album ever to rattle the stain glass windows of Christendom. Star of the show is deejay K-Mack (now an official member of the group) who struts his sampling stuff with a dizzying selection of beats and breaks interspersed with dozens of eclectic extracts ranging from a black preacher screaming that we've got to get the Bible written into our hearts to jazz, soul, and pop snip its. Over this furious blend of gut crunching percussion Bury Hogan and Fred Lynch rap it from the streets. "Victim Of The System" takes the same route as D-Boy in "Cease For Peace" giving voice to the victim of the system while on "Joy Like A River" a real gospel choir and rapid rhythming lock into a dazzling celebration. Fax 'n' info freaks will note there's a new version of "Authority", the strutting rap they originally did on the 'Power Team Soundtrack' album (unreleased here) while collector's of curiosities will go ape for Bary G's imitation of a JA toaster on "Roots" which sounds straight out of Trenchtown. Brilliant, innovative rap music.
