If you're a long time follower of Christian music you'll know about singer, songwriter, producer and label owner Sandifer. Down the years this Austin, Texas-based musician has produced an eclectic sweep of music and in January of last year released this album, the first of what he hopes will be a yearly offering of traditional hymns. Performed in simple acoustic style, these are indeed classics of the hymn book and with his warm, Dan Fogelberg-sounding voice and beautifully picked guitar the effect is heart-warming. Particular standouts are the opener "Come Christians Join To Sing" but even his renditions of the over-recorded "Be Thou My Vision", "Blessed Assurance" and "Great Is Thy Faithfulness" show the veteran to be one of the most underrated song interpreters around.
