Question: when is dated music not dated? Answer: when it's "retro". Unfortunately, this album fails to be retro, recalling to me most clearly the early 80s rock of an "Eye Of The Tiger" vein. Not that they don't do it well - the band seems tight and the lyrics are a cut above average. However, many bands now are truly at the cutting edge and maybe Pocket Earth would do well to reconsider their style. I think they've got the chops to make a much better band if they went retro into, say, Bad Company territory (well, Cry Of Love have done it!) or took on board some of the latest influences, be it Nirvana or Achtung Baby. The band have lost their bass player and are looking for a new one, so this could be a perfect chance to re-invent themselves.
