East Midlands singer/songwriter Sarah Poole has followed up her well received 2012 debut with another seven track offering which sees the songstress deliver a collection of old spirituals and original numbers which point to God as the source of hope in times of trouble. Accompanied by nothing more than a couple of acoustic guitars and with a vocal delivery reminiscent of the likes of folk icons Joan Baez and Judy Collins, Poole's work is very much in the 1960s blues folk vein and, on the whole, she pulls it off with authenticity and aplomb. Poole's versions of traditional spirituals such as "I'm Working On A Building" and the title track - the latter bravely and successfully augmented - work especially well and sit seamlessly next to originals such as the gentle song of hope "Don't You Cry" and the Exodus-referencing "Go Tell Him" which showcase Poole's talent as a songwriter as well as a performer. The standard drops slightly with the workmanlike "Knock At His Door" and a rough instrumental rendition of "Amazing Grace" but this is an otherwise quality release.
