Reviewed by Mike Rimmer In the good old days before Mammon got a foothold in Christian music and the top 40 crossover beckoned, Christian artists sang songs about their Saviour. How refreshing then that husband and wife team Seneca have released a debut album full of songs of faith. OK, so these songs about simple faith, reading the Bible, marriages that last and advice against pre-marital sex can easily be dismissed as twee and clichéd and perhaps they are! Musically, it's the audio equivalent of putting on a pair of slippers, soft, comfortable, warm, unsurprising. It's new country, nicely produced, well played with nice harmonies. My head says that as a Brit, this southern state homespun guff about fried chicken and the old Good Book could come from Venus and be more culturally relevant. But listening to this album as I drove around Devon on holiday, I found the simple message of each song encouraging my heart. And isn't that what counts? So, if you can ignore the clichés, there's some nice unambiguous country music songs that point you straight to Jesus. Sometimes, isn't that just what your tired soul needs?
