As has been commented on many occasions down the years on the Cross Rhythms website, Simon's voice bears an uncanny resemblance to that of Sir Cliff. So, after years of singing sessions on countless anonymous worship projects the Leicestershire-based singer had bowed to the inevitable and recorded a set of old Cliff hits. In view of Simon's amazing ability to replicate the sound and phrasing of the superstar's voice I'm surprised he hasn't gone the whole hog and joined the lucrative direction of the busy gigging tribute artist. So, what of the album here? The songs covered emanate from the 2007 BBC Radio 2 Ultimate Cliff Song Poll and include old favourites like "Summer Holiday", "The Next Time", the rock/pop "We Don't Talk Anymore" and the mellow "Miss You Nights". Disco classics include "Wired For Sound" and "Devil Woman". As commented by Goodall, Cliff Richard's "is most definitely in a class of his own" and for all those of a certain age and who were (and still are) great fans of Cliff Richard, this is a great jog down memory lane though, in truth, most fans will be quite happy staying with their Cliff originals.

I have been a Cliff fan for 23 years and remember a fanclub
meeting in Germany in 1998 where we were introcuded to
Cliff´s "new single". When the song was over we were told
that it wasn´t actually Cliff we had just heard but a
British Christian singer named Simon Goodall. I fell in love
with his voice immediately, not only because it sounded so
much like Cliff´s but because of its warmth and feeling.
The song was from a recording session called "The Source"
and I ordered all CD´s at once. Living in Germany I could
unfortunately not get any more info on Simon via the
internet at that time and gave up. Now 12 years later I was
so happy to find him again and was amazed that he actually
had just recorded a tribute album for Cliff´s 50th
anniversary. I ordered it straight away as well as all his
other albums he has made over the years. I love his perfect
renditions of Cliff´s songs which he is just predestinated
to sing. The similarity to Cliff´s voice is amazing, almost
scary sometimes. He did a fantastic job with this album, his
versions of "Ocean Deep", "Some People" and "Faithful One"
simply blew me away. But I also love all of his own material
and I hope to hear a lot more of him in future.
