Four middle aged misfits from Kalamazoo, playing acoustic pop-tinged with jazz and blues, is how their website describes Sojorn. Formed in 1992 this is their fourth album. I received this CD whilst I was just going on holiday in Devon and so with no CD collection to cross reference with it took me a long time to realise what Sojourn reminded me of, I realised after much wondering; 'Horse With No Name' by America. Two rhythm guitars, lead and bass guitar played by the talented musicians with single lead vocal, however lacking somewhat in the area of excitement. They have now added a drummer which should give them more drive. So, what to say about the CD? Lyrically, theologically sound. Musically competent, comfortable and conservative. Some pleasant instrumental tracks which would be good in the background at dinner parties. I found the sound rather dated which meant lyrics raising social concerns lacked the bite to make me sit up and wonder what the band were all about. Middle aged and middle of the road does sum it up, but if you enjoy that kind of thing, buy it!
