The recipe is familiar. A successful producer takes 14 songs written by people such as Keith Getty and Stuart Townend, Matt and Beth Redman, Noel Richards, Paul Oakley, Lara Martin and Mark Stevens, and Chris Bowater and get a collective to re-record them. This is a similar concept to the 'Heart of Worship Urban' album. The contemporary soul/gospel/R&B stylings here feature with vocals from Muyiwa, Remi (from GK Real, who are awesome), Jocelyn Brown and (rather incongruously) Nashville's Susan Ashton. Another misplaced addition to the album is Noel Richards, who does the vocals on one of his own songs, accompanied by the Prague Symphony Orchestra arranged by Keith Getty. Nicky Brown is the producer of 'Soul Worship' and delivers a middle of the road R&B vibe, so likely to appeal to a wider age range and be accessible to Anglicans as well as Pentecostals. To quote Nicky Brown, "This idea was purely born out of a love for the British praise and worship sound. We wanted to show the rest of the world the impact some of the world's most anointed songwriters have had on us and our churches." The album is certainly successful in bringing a fresh look at some UK worship songs before they got too dated.
