By now a ‘New Songs’ release is an established part of the whole Spring Harvest experience. In case you didn’t know, ICC ask different producers to assemble some session singers and go in with a batch of songs that are to be given the big tent exposure at Spring Harvest that year. The one flaw in the concept is that by the time the rather laborious Spring Harvest worship committee get around to giving the nod to some of the songs they’re not “new” to those who buy worship albums and the producers are hard put to better the recorded versions previously released. So if you want the best versions of “Holy”, go for the Vineyard Music UK version, similarly “Famous One” (Chris Tomlin) and “Beautiful One” (Soul Survivor/Tim Hughes). But there is still some good stuff here. Trevor Michael and Dave Lynch do a great job behind the boards and “Pierced”, written by Phil Hart and Joanne Hogg and sung exquisitely by Esther Alexander, is superb.
