The massive popularity of Steve Green has long mystified me. So often his performances have spiralled from the intended passion and drama to become overblown and melodramatic while producer/arranger Greg Nelson's arrangements often touch on the pure camp archness of Liberace. Having said all that we have on this set some of the most glorious hymns of praise ever written and the sheer magnificence of "Holy Holy Holy", "Breathe On Me Breath Of God", "How Great Thou Art" etc, etc cannot be entirely emasculated by the fussy arrangements. But it's still a difficult album to endure in its entirety. Every Christian bookshop will stock and sell this where many of the albums raved over in Cross Rhythms will never pass over their counters. Odd isn't it?
