The first album released under the Telecast name 'The Beauty Of Simplicity' sold pretty well and introduced us to the memorable compositions and huskily haunting voice of frontman Josh White. As it turned out that version of Telecast folded but hearteningly the story didn't end there. Josh has now returned with Telecast Mark 2 and a batch of songs and arrangements which, if anything, are brighter and fresher than its predecessor. Where 'The Beauty Of Simplicity' sometimes veered too close to the Coldplay template this album brings in numerous modern rock sounds and influences without settling in any one musical camp. The anthemic opener "Saturated" and the throbbing "Release The Deep" are both excellent modern worship songs with the latter introducing an undulating synth riff into the carefully layered rock guitars. My favourite though is the acoustic-anchored "Absolution", a transparently honest prayer. Josh White is a huge talent with songs and insights the worshipping Church should take to their hearts. Here's hoping this excellent album gets through to Joe Public.
