As someone raised on a diet of prog giants such as Yes, Genesis, Rush, Marillion and more recently Dream Theater, Transatlantic and the mighty Spock's Beard, I've long been bemoaning the lack of Christian prog artists. Could this much-lauded American outfit be the answer to my prayers? The accompanying blurb trumpets Ground Zero as "progressive rock reborn" promising "heavy odd-time signature keyboard-led bombastic heaviness". Well, I'm afraid to say that this is not the Holy Grail for prog fans. Best described as symphonic rock in the vein of Kansas and Boston, 'Battle Cry' does admittedly have some authentically prog moments here and there, notably in the three-part "Nightmare Opus" and "Secret Society", but overall this is disappointing and won't be dragging me away from my Spock's Beard CDs. I continue to wait for something that will.
