Teenage pregnancy rates in Stoke on Trent are the second highest in Britain – despite a fall in the number of young mums in the City. Issued by the National Statistics they also show a drop in girls aged under 16 conceiving in the City. And among the under 16’s the data for 2013 shows the incidence is one in around 140. And in Stoke-on-Trent 58.6% of pregnant girls under 16 went on to have abortions – compared to 69.3% in Staffordshire and 61.6% nationally. | |

Churches, some dating from the 12th Century are being sold by the Church of England as the number of worshippers continue to fall, it was reported in late February. Nineteen former churches are currently listed for sale, with an estimated value of £3million. The oldest is the 12th century St. Peters’ in Buckinghamshire. The latest figures for 2012 suggest that fewer than 800,000 people worship at Anglican Sunday Services, half the number in the 1960’s. | |

Christianity will remain the world’s largest religion in 2050 but only just, according to a new report from the Pew Research Center. The US think tank forecasts that Islam will grow rapidly over the next 35 years, taking the number of Muslims to 2.8 billion by the century's mid-point compared to 2.9 billion Christians. By then, the UK will no longer have a majority identifying as Christian and 10% of Europe's population could be Muslim, the study claims. | |
