I see the word "acapella" and immediately think of a) Take 6, or b) draughty old cathedrals at evensong. Thankfully, this offering is nearest to option a), but Take 6 are a hard act to follow. Acappella have recorded many albums and Keith Lancaster's The Acapella Company have released seemingly dozens of offshoot albums. What you have here is a group where every one's instrument is their voice, light harmonies and well crafted tunes. This is chilling-out-with-a-good-book-after-a-hard-day kind of music. It's non-threatening on the shell likes, won't raise your stress level and may well induce a restful night's sleep. Er. not that it's, er, terribly boring. It's just not rock 'n' roll. Tracks worth a fair trial are the more upbeat "Get To The Point". "Gotta Grow Up" with its up-and-down harmonies and "Let's Show And Tell" which has a slightly Negro spiritual feel. Verdict? Well, given that acapella is one of the hardest genres of music to produce successfully, there is nothing criminally wrong with this, apart from perhaps a dose of blandness.
