I could have sworn they were using a drum box on the acappella version of Amy Grant's "How Majestic Is Your Name" but no, there is the proud sleeve proclamation, "all sounds vocally produced by Rodney Britt and Keith Lancaster." Well it SOUNDS exactly like a drum box and not a very expertly programmed one either. 'Better Than Life' features guest vocalist Jerome Williams on one song and he does bring a new soulful dimension to the Glad-style harmonies but it was a pointless exercise doing "He Gave Me Water", the Soul Stirrers cut the definitive version of that three decades back. Elsewhere on the album we've got a so-so version of the Ray Boltz ballad "What Was I Supposed To Be" and some more rather dull Keith Lancaster songs.
