I must admit that I enjoy listening to acappella singing, so this came as a welcome surprise from the Greybearded One. The sleeve notes proclaim that "the human voice is the greatest instrument of music ever created," and, despite some people's attempts to prove otherwise, the fact is indisputable. The Acappella Co was formed in 1982 by Keith Lancaster, and since then, thanks in no small measure to Keith and other groups such as Glad. Take 6 and Ladysmith Black Mambazo, acappella has become exceedingly popular. Over the years the quality of the A Co's output has tended to fluctuate - usually excellent, occasionally twee - but the sleeve notes also claim that this is the best of the last 16 years. Having listened to the tight vocal harmonies, soaring soulful leads and booming bass lines, coupled with good songs and a good value package lasting 73 minutes, 1 have to agree. If acappella is your bag, this is recommended; if it isn't buy it anyway and prepare to be converted.
