Steven Sproat has, by all accounts, been in the business a long while, starting out young and now in his fifth decade of performing and writing. This latest release reflects his journey over the past few years. Known as one of the country's leading ukulele players (how many performers get to say that they have taught the ukulele to Harry Hill on their CV?!), this album contains some intimate acoustic songs alongside some more regular guitar-based tracks. Given that this is a compilation from over a number of years, the album reflects a surprising consistency of tone and feel. Many of the songs are wistful and have a raw feeling that lends itself to the intimacy of the songwriter. Highlights include "Free Falling" and "You Turn The Light On", both of which are examples of the poignant feel of much of the album. Steven is clearly a gifted musician and songwriter with a voice for airplay, but these songs deserve to be heard live as well as recorded.
