Steven is an experienced muso who's been gigging around the UK for a good few years and now offers three thoroughly pleasant self-penned songs which are due to be released on a CD single sometime during January/February 1997. Production is good, with a tight backing band and some ' tasty lead guitar work, particularly on "This Life Of Mine", and Steven sings competently throughout. Sadly, his biggest problem is likely to be living up to his publicity blurb. The biog sheet talks about a "singer/songwriter with undeniable class" and looks forward to audiences being "entranced by his debut single...an outstanding rock ballad and perfect love song." Ernr...yes, well - these old ears have heard lots of claimants to the "singer/songwriter with undeniable class" accolade - f'rinstance, Rich Mullins, Martyn Joseph, Helen Jayne, Chris Eaton; methinks Steven has some way to go to emulate these, although the imminent CD single may be a step in the right direction.
