Scotland's Steven has turned out a stream of recordings down the years and this, his latest album, is among his best. Pride of place goes to a summery melodic opener "You (Turn The Light On)" which sounds like a hit if only it could get the airplay. Nothing else on this set quite reaches the magic of that opener but with a deft production from John David there are wistful melodies aplenty and a vocal style which comes on like a cross between Gilbert O'Sullivan and Chris Rea. Not everything works. "Hayley" is the wrong side of twee. But a nicely crafted pop song like "Freefalling" or the worshipful "Jesus Your Name" show a singer/songwriter on top of his game.
